New Avenues of Nerdiness
Ever since I began graduate school for my Master's in Business Administration (in the event that you didn't know, I'm currently working on my Master's in Business Administration) I have started to think more seriously about starting my own business, considering various different possibilities at different times. Currently, I have begun writing up ideas that would make a Bookstore a viable business in light of competition with places like Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Amazon.com. Most of my current plan is centered around the needs of college students that aren't met adequately by the current new/used textbook marketplace. Though most of my ideas are centered around college students, I have also considered some ways in which a small, independently owned bookstore could also meet the needs of the general book buying population.
Before I get into this (over the next few weeks, if there is interest) I would be curious for some anecdotal evidence from those of you who still regularly read this blog about ways you have been disappointed by what the major bookstore chains currently offer. This can be as specific or as general as you want (i.e. you were hoping for some type of product or service to be provided that wasn't), but I would love to know that there are other market needs that aren't being met that would mean there is a substantial market to fill by opening a bookstore.
This obviously isn't something that I will be doing in the near future, but it is something I am seriously considering and would love to start building a "business plan" around. Also, it is very possible that this blog might become slightly more focused in the upcoming weeks and months depending on how much response there is to this subject, and how viable the idea seems to be. I may also start posting more of my crazy schemes and ideas to see if any of them are interesting enough to pursue further.
So, with that said I'm asking your for:
See - I'm still the same nerd I've always been.
