Today is a very exciting day at somesmart.com. In all the time of our existence, you've probably noticed the "font" that pervades the site. Well, after hours of hard work, Josh has finally been able to create a version that can be used in Windows. That's right! Now you can type anything you'd like in the some smart, some don't font. To download the font, click here, and for instructions on how to install a font onto your computer, click here.

Specifically, as I read through I hope to find at least 1 Horcrux per book, and if and when I do I'll be sure to share them here. I may be giving Rowling too much credit, but I sincerely believe that she had most major plot points planned out from the very beginning, and I'm hoping that reading through from the beginning, focusing solely on Horcruxes and how things can end, will be wonderfully enlightening. Not that I'll complain either way - I'll take any excuse I can get if it means more Harry Potter.

I'm sure everyone has heard by now, but this year we will be celebrating Christmas in July. That's correct, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, the 7th and final book of the Harry Potter series, will be released on July 21st, 2007. In preparation for this hallowed event, I started reading HP & the Philosopher's Stone just last night. I figure with 5 months to go, I can easily complete all 6 books just as the final book drops.

As I progress, I hope to pick up on some insights on how things will fall out in the final piece. I now have less than one month until my 25th birthday. Is it possible I could be having a quarter-life crisis?
Seriously, it's a picture of a cat (that may or may not have ears) playing Dragon Quest Monster: Joker on a DS Lite. I'm going to attempt to recreate this scenario with my own cats, so if I'm unable to make any updates over the next few weeks it's most likely due to a massive loss of blood. (My cats have claws. Sharp, painful claws.)

I know I mention it a lot, but I really love the internet. Without it, my life would never be enriched by this much awesomeness:

It's unfortunate I've let The Some Smart Some Don’t School for Kids Who Can’t Speak Good and Want to Learn How to Do Other Things Good Too flounder in such obscurity. Not just because I think logic is fun, or that this type of analysis of our language can be both informative and slightly humurous, but because these type of things really piss me off. In fact, I'm ashamed that I haven't taken the time to focus this rage into anger fueled creativity. Watch out My Chemical Romance - I'm chocked full of angry, depressed creativity, and I have you in my sights.
Oh, by the way, something about the word irregardless pissed me off this weekend. Can you guess what it was?

Josh just emailed me a something he had recently completed - a biography of Orsen Welles. Intrigued by where such an article would come from, I questioned Josh about it.
With that in mind, I hope you enjoy this "biography" of Orson Welles.

Don't worry, the menu bar on the left was purposefully removed, being replaced by the superior streamlined version you see above. I know things appear a bit "wider" for the time being, but you'll get used to it, I promise. Just pretend you switched your internet browser to "fill" rather than "full". Much better, no?

I'm sure by now you've noticed the slight site redesign. Or maybe I should say re-coloring. I'm enjoying this new look more, so it should stick around for the time being (or at least until Josh gets internet access back and can work his graphic designing magic.

So this is the new Year? I don't feel any different. I know, you're shocked by the insight that's captured in those few simple words. How was I able to so succinctly encompass the myriad emotions that are present during this strangely introspective time of year? Well, if it makes you feel any better, I wasn't - it's the opening line of a Death Cab for Cutie song. A band, I've just discovered, that totally rocks my face off.
Speaking of the new year, I did make one resolution. It was a long resolution, involving quantum theory, Plato, various forms of creative expression, and a wide array of aliens - don't worry I won't bore you with the details. The upshot to you, internet, is that I will aim to update the site with more frequency and with more depth. In other words, instead of just gushing about Final Fantasy XII for a month, I'll try to contribute actual commentary on the game, or something similarly worthwhile. The good news is that I even have a few ideas that should be loads of fun to work on, and I know others are working on content as well (just as an example, Steve is putting together his Best Albums of 2006 to follow up on last year's list)
Now, to prove I'm not just full of it, here's a few Proverbs, as Josh sees them. This can't be good for my soul....

December 25th, 2006
Merry Christmas! What are you doing on the internet?
p.s. Things will be happening here soon, I promise!
December 19th, 2006
(Scott is busy making a 2007 page that will rock your socks off)
I've been out for 3 years, but this still makes me smile:

November 24th, 2006 (Scott'll make a December page soon).

Happy Black Friday
Watch your step... Don't want to get old lady on your shoe!
November 7th, 2006 (Scott'll make a new page soon).
November 1st, 2006 (I'll make a new page soon).
Yes, I do officially have Final Fantasy XII now, and it's quite possibly better than I thought it would be. I've logged a pretty good amount of time so far, considering I've only had it for a day, and I'm excited to keep playing. I'll put together a new Final Fantasy XII running review? within the next day, so keep checking back for that to go live.
In other news, I will be attending a Ben Folds concert tonight, so maybe I'll be able to post about that as well!
Keith's addition:
In related news, I just realized (because a friend corrected me) that FFXII is not an online game. I'm half tempted to buy a PS2 for FFXII and also the bonus of having a DVD player in my room again. I'll let you know how that goes.
October 31st, 2006
Well, Scott officially owns FFXII now. I'm not sure I've seen anyone else update the website in a few months, so I guess it's up to me to keep this site alive.
Ummm....
I got nothing.
I can share with you some Halloween spirit:
October 30th, 2006
Tonight.
October 19th, 2006
I pre-ordered my copy of Final Fantasy XII two days ago. I would have mentioned it earlier, but in my excitement I confused my pre-order receipt with the actual game, and spent the last two days trying to get it to work in my ps2. I failed.
But now we're down to 11 days!
October 16th, 2006
So I had a dream last night that a friend (incidentally, the same one who introduced me to Final Fantasy IV) came over to my house after having purchased a copy of Final Fantasy XII before the official street date. I immediately headed out to the Best Buy where he had purchased it, hoping to score the same sweet deal.
It turned out, however, that I didn't have a car in this post-apocalyptic dream world. I guess I can't complain, considering half the people around had already been turned into zombies, and I was still 100% human (God obviously answered my prayer, understanding that being among the living dead didn't count). I decided to go on a bit of a walk/run along the highway and was able to get there pretty quick. In the end, I wasn't quick enough as it turned out that that the freezer that held the games was already picked clean.
Oh well, just 14 days to go.
October 12th, 2006
Sorry no update - I'm totally hungover from celebrating Final Fantasy XII Day.
October 11th, 2006
Happy Final Fantasy XII Day!. No, I'm not kidding. It appears that the entire city of New York has caught on to the hype I've been building, has realized that Final Fantasy XII is unmitigatingly awesome, and has declared today, October 11th, 2006 Final Fantasy XII day.
If you aren't anywhere near New York City, feel free to celebrate the way I will: by harassing local EB Games and Gamestop employees until you find out which stores will be holding midnight release events for the game!
October 10th, 2006
We interrupt your regularly scheduled Final Fantasy XII love-a-thon (love it) to bring you the newest addition to our household:
It's a very good-natured, calm, pleasant, uniquely beautiful state. Very unlike the chaotic, heavy-handed, attention seeking State of New Jersey we've grown to love.
October 9th, 2006
I'm sure anyone here knows what an RPG is, but I was thinking that I might not be the only one who didn't know what an MMORPG is.
As a service announcement, I'd like you all to know that and MMORPG is a Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. The only reason I'm posting this OSA (online service announcement) is because World of Warcraft was featured in the 10th season premiere of South Park

Seemed almost relevant.
October 9th, 2006 part deaux
Holy crap I had a scary experience last night: I booted up my ps2 to play a little Okami (which is an entirely different story of video game awesomeness) when I got the dreaded "Disc Read Error". Suddenly, it hit me: I asked God that I live long enough to play Final Fantasy XII, but not that my ps2 does the same. You know what I'll be praying about tonight.
October 8th, 2006
I have a confession: I thought about Final Fantasy XII during church this morning. But only to ask God that I live long enough to play it.
October 7th, 2006
I apologize for the lack of an update yesterday. Today's update, however, is so awesome that it more than makes up for it. If you took my advice earlier in the week, then you have been delving deep within the Final Fantasy XII homepage, learning as much as you possibly can about the game before it drops.
One thing you probably realized is that one of the Espers in XII is a creature called Zeromus:

So, what's the significance of this Esper versus, say, Ultima? Only that Zeromus is none other than the final boss of the greatest Final Fantasy in the history of the universe: Final Fantasy IV. He may look a bit different than he has in the past, but that doesn't change the fact that Final Fantasy XII has the ultimate boss from the ultimate Final Fantasy and this time, he's on your side.
October 5th, 2006
No FF XII update from Scott today (yet), so I figured I'd hop on to say that Final Fantasy VII is pretty awesome. And no one knows how awesome it is more than I do because I don't think anyone else has played 99:99:59 hours of FF VII. If only I was at home with a digital camera and the desire to get a screenshot of the timer... You'll just have to believe me.
Final Fantasy VII rocks!

Scott's note: what makes this fact even more impressive is that Final Fantasy VII doesn't track time beyond the 99:99:59 point - so even though Keith played it well beyond that point, his awesomeness was capped out. Now to bring it all back together: Final Fantasy XII does not suffer from such a horrible shortcoming. No! In Final Fantasy XII you can log well over one hundred hours, if you so desire. (And of course, you do).
October 4th, 2006
Right, so I noticed yesterday that the Official Final Fantasy XII website is now complete. (Of course I'm referring to the official English version of the site - the Japanese version has been live for quite some time, as I'm sure everyone knows. What's a language barrier between massive fans of the series?)
Things to take note of on this newly awesome website:
- the trailer is outrageously good. How can you watch that and not freak out that you have 26 days to wait to play this game? Seriously, how? I need to know because it's probably going to get me fired if I don't learn to stop.
- they now have wallpapers available for download; I went with the black and white cookie version of the logo. Final Fantasy XII is obviously telling us to look to the cookie. (There are also buddy icons, but I don't use AIM nearly enough anymore so...)
- most importantly, they've opened up the "How to Fight Back" section. Unfortunately, this wasn't about "How to Fight Back against cool people who call you a loser for getting so excited about playing Final Fantasy." No, it was about "How to Fight Back in the game" which, though it won't save my life from roaming bands of nerdivores?, it gives us all something to study and memorize so we can rule the game immediately upon its release.
So go there. Now. Watch it. Learn it. Love it.

What, were you somehow under the impression that the impending release of Final Fantasy XII wouldn't inspire me to talk about it constantly? Well, that makes me believe someone hasn't had the life altering experience of watching hours of Final Fantasy XII gameplay video.
Several hours later....

Maybe it's because I work in payroll, but when a new month begins on Sunday, it somehow feels very right. As though the month and the week have fulfilled their purpose in some significant way.
Nonetheless, this is isn't "national feel deeply fulfilled and whole due to the arbitrary designation of days, weeks, and months" month. Actually, I think it's "National Pastor Appreciation" month, but that's not particularly relevant either. What's far more important is that today begins a month I've been anticipating for nearly 4 years now: That's right - the month that FINAL FANTASY XII will finally be released.
So join me as we count down to the release (and play through blogging/review fest) of Final Fantasy XII.

In related news, I just realized (because a friend corrected me) that FFXII is not an online game. I'm half tempted to buy a PS2? for FFXII and also the bonus of having a DVD player in my room again. I'll let you know how that goes.

Yes, I do officially have Final Fantasy XII now, and it's quite possibly 'better than I thought it would be. I've logged a pretty good amount of time so far, considering I've only had it for a day, and I'm excited to keep playing. I'll put together a new Final Fantasy XII running review? within the next day, so keep checking back for that to go live.

Well, Scott officially owns FFXII now. I'm not sure I've seen anyone else update the website in a few months, so I guess it's up to me to keep this site alive.
Ummm....
I got nothing.
Not quick enough, though, as it turned out that by the time I got there the freezer that held the games was already picked clean.

So I had a dream last night that a friend (incidentally, the same one who introduced me to Final Fantasy IV) came over to my house after having purchased a copy of Final Fantasy XII before the official street date. I immediately headed out to the Best Buy where had purchased it, hoping to score the same sweet deal.

Sorry no update - I'm totally hungover from celebrating Final Fantasy XII Day.
No FF XII update from Scott today (yet), so I figured I'd hop on to say that Final Fantasy VII is pretty awesome. And no one knows how awesome it is, more than I do because I don't think anyone else has played 99:99:59 hours of FF VII. If only I was at home with a digital camera and the desire to get a screenshot of the timer... You'll just have to believe me.

If you aren't anywhere near New York City feel free to celebrate the way I will: by harassing local EB Games and Gamestop employees until you find out which stores will be holding midnight release events for the game!

It's a very good-natured, calm, pleasant, uniquely beautiful state. Very unlike the chaotic, heavy-handed, attention seeking State of New Jersey we've grown to love.
Holy crap I had a scary experience last night: I booted up my ps2 to play a little Okami (which is an entirely different storry of video game awesomeness) when I got the dreaded "Disc Read Error". Suddenly, it hit me: I asked God that I live long enough to play Final Fantasy XII, but not that my ps2 does the same. You know what I'll be praying about tonight.

(And, of course, you do).

Final Fantasy VII rocks!

Unfortunately, this wasn't about "How to Fight Back against cool people who call you a loser for getting so excited about playing Final Fantasy." No, it was about "How to Fight Back in the game" which, though it won't save my life from roaming bands of nerdivoresNerdivores?, it gives us all something to study and memorize so we can rule the game immediately upon its release.

Right, so I noticed yesterday that the Official Final Fantasy XII website is now complete. (Of course I'm referring to the official English version of the site - the Japanese version has been live for quite some time, as I'm sure everyone knows. What's a language barrier between massive fans of the series?)

Nonetheless, this is isn't "national feel deeply fulfilled and whole due to the arbitrary designation of days, weeks, and months" month. What's far more important is that today begins a month I've been anticipating for nearly 4 years now: That's right - the month that FINAL FANTASY XII is finally released.

I know what you all must be thinking: "Why didn't Scott mention Labor Day yesterday? Has he met some horrible fate?" No, fortunately not. Instead, I was saving my post for a much more important holiday. That's right, National Payroll Week. Now that you've clicked that link, and realized I'm not kidding, allow me, as a payroll professional, to detail why this is funny in so many ways.
First of all, they were gracious enough to hold this on Labor Day week, meaning there is one less work day in which to process payroll. Though it's great to have the day off, if you are actually responsible for paying people on Friday of such a week, everything gets pushed back a day, resulting in a huge pain in the ass. How lovely that we celebrate our work on one of the busier weeks of the year. Thanks!
More importantly, however, is the following: National Payroll Week bling. Please feel free to purchase the following for me:

From the official description of the product: Dolly Parton will be jealous. This dazzling pin, with green stones set into a silver backing, announces your support for National Payroll Week. The green rhinestones will make you the envy of other departments in your building and the silver will display your purity of purpose as you continue your perfect payroll streak. Pin is 1.25" x 0.5".
Seriously, you can't make this stuff up.
September 1st, 2006
Greetings new month - and hopefully greetings cool weather. Though it may not appear to be the case, there are loads of things in the works for the site at the moment, and there is actually significant project being made on them. Unfortunately a few of these endeavours are quite huge. Evidence of this will most likely appear in the next day or so when a story written by Josh will appear. I'd put it up sooner, but it's being mailed to me. In the actual mail. Not the electronic version, but the version that you have to give to another human being in order for it to reach its destination.
I think it's referred to as Mail 1.0 now. Speaking of Mail 1.0, it does have its added benefits, as we've discussed here before. So, just because it's slow, inconsistent, and costly doesn't mean it's totally worthless. Afterall, it's personal, and when it comes to insulting strangers, that's the most important thing of all.

Seriously, you can't make up comedy like this.

First of all, they were gracious enough to hold this on Labor Day week, meaning there is one less work day in the week. Though it's great to have the day off, if you are actually responsible for paying people on Friday of such a week, everything gets pushed back a day, resulting in a huge pain in the ass. How lovely that we celebrate our work on one of the busier weeks of the year. Thanks!

I know what you all must be thinking: "Why didn't Scott mention Labor Day yesterday? Has he met a horrible Steve Irwin type fate?" No, fortunately not.

Greetings new month - and hopefully greetings cool weather. Though it may not appear to be the case, there are loads of things in the works at the moment, and there is actually significant project being made on them.

Speaking of Mail 1.0, it does have its added benefits?, as we've discussed here before. So, just because it's slow, inconsistent, and costly doesn't mean it's totally worthless. Afterall, it's personal, and when it comes to insulting strangers?, that's the most important thing of all.

Holy crap, have we just gone Back in Time? No, of course not, because that would be impossible (at least according to Augustine). In honor of this non-back in time travelling, I've uploaded a paper I wrote in college about the nature of time itself. In all honesty, it's kind of poorly written. However, I do make a pretty nifty tie in to the classic film Donnie Darko (which I have a FAQ I'll upload later). As a final note, the paper is a little technical, so no saying I didn't warn you.

P.S. Keith is right, my desk calender sucks, and lists only Civic Day for the entire month of August.

What a great day in history:
- Oxygen officially discoverd - 1774 (what did we breathe before that?)
- London Bridge opens - 1831 (yet it had been "falling down" since 1720?)
- Colorado becomes our 38th state - 1876 (Go Centennial State!)
- Anne Frank runs out of paper; last entry - 1944 (too soon?)
- Six Flags opens its first park - 1961 (in Texas!)
- MTV premieres with "Video Killed the Radio Star" - 1981 (how many people were tuned in to a non-existant channel at 12:01 am?)
- MTV2 premieres, promising non-stop videos - 1996 (now with more Andy Milonakis and Invader ZIM!)
- Keith reviews a Toad concert and Glen Phillips's latest EP - 2006 (kinda anticlimactic)

Life is wonderfully hilarious sometimes. Take today for example - rain was pouring down, and since the area around my office has a tendency to flood terribly, I went up to Vanessa's office and called to make sure the roads near work were clear. I got the go ahead, so I grab the elevator heading downstairs. The older, well-dressed man who held the door for me turns and asks:
I wonder if this is God's way of telling me I should start tucking in my shirt?

I was in Yellowstone National Park all last week, which might help to explain why the site went down and then never came back up. Don't worry, I haven't completely given up on it yet - I was mearly 1,400 miles away and couldn't quite reach the reboot button. Nevertheless, I'm back now, and full of interesting stories to share....
I love vacations for many reasons, but topping off the list is all that oddball stuff you run across. Take this for example:

That's right, three times faster than you.
Fortunately, I avoided all the buffalo I ran across, and thus was able to retain both my camera and my hat for the entire trip. (side note: I didn't actually have the hat the whole time because I bought it on Tuesday when I went to see Old Faithful - which was a monumental let down, easily topped by my newly purchased hat.)

Dear Internet,
Sometimes I take you for granted, I know. I use you every day, but I don't often tell you how I really feel. Today, however, you showed me yet again how truly special you are. I hope you know I love you, internet, and that I'll never take you for granted again. Thank you for this, I'll remember it forever:

more (long load times ahead).
Sincerely,
Scott

Happy 4th of July. I guess today is an okay Holiday to spend on the internet since you aren't with your family, remembering how much you care for each other and ignoring all the times your older brother would hold you down and spit on your face.....
But you better not be here tonight, when you can legally blow things up in celebration of how much you love America (a love I will prove tonight through my own series of life threatening explosions). Unless of course you live in New Jersey. Then again, if you live in New Jersey you have more important things to worry about:

Whoa...
This site didn't completely fall apart in my absence. What's up with that?
I know it's been out of theatres for about a month, but here's my delayed review of Poseidon
Which reminded me of a long email I wrote to a friend who asked about another "movie" I had watched. It's strange how much you can talk about bad movies...

Please don't read the following update if you are not a Houston Astros fan because it will be one, or all, of the following:
- Boring
- Stupid
- Illogical
- Worthless
As for everyone else, read on!
It appears that Roger Clemens is such an amazing pitcher that when he takes the mound, not only is the other team unable to score runs, but the Astros themselves are completely and utterly shutdown. Now that's what I call power pitching.

Sorry about the long delay between updates, but I wanted to wait until I had the GREATEST UPDATE OF ALL TIME. If you're counting, this is the 7th GREATEST UPDATE OF ALL TIME. Damn, this site rules!
Anyways, remember when I said all this crazy stuff about how Harry Potter would end? Well, I might still be wrong, but at least I'm not crazy.
Feel free to ask for my autograph anytime (autographs [at] somesmart [dot] com).

Happy first day of Hurricane Season. What are you doing on the internet?
Haha, I'm just kidding. Today's not a real holiday. However, it is a day overflowing with frightening imagery which seeks to instill fear in all our hearts, so it might as well be.
Speaking of frightening imagery, I've reviewed X-Men: The Last Stand. For those of you too impatient to click the link, or too excited to properly control your mouse, here's a sneak peek:

My cat does a lot of crazy things, but the following was so awesome I had to post it for all the world to see. Enjoy! (p.s. If the video doesn't load, use Firefox, because you already should be using it anyways - unless of course you hate the internet.) If for some reason you are unable to use Firefox, or you still can't see anything, you can now observe the video here

It appears that Roger Clemens is such an amazing pitcher that when he takes the mound, not only is the other team unable to score runs, but appearently the Astros themselves are completely and utterly shutdown. Now that's what I call power pitching.

Anyways, remember when I said all this crazy stuff about how Harry Potter would end? Well, I might still be wrong, but at least I'm not crazy.

Happy Memorial Day. What are you doing on the internet?
May 23, 2006
Before you get your hopes up, there is nothing important or significant about this post. I may have some links in it, but they won’t be to anything we’ve created here. All I want to say is that I’ve really gotten into podcasts lately. I don’t know why it took me so long, but now that I’ve found some podcasts that are actually about things I’m interested in, I find it far more engaging than listening to the bustling world of talk radio. So, if you have any podcasts that you enjoy and want to spread the love on, shoot me and email.
I've also been enjoying my Nintendo DS immensely. At some point I'll put together an article on all the great games I have for it so far, my impressions of them, and another I'm a loser and can't wait for this really old game rant.
And since I mentioned links, I might as well not let you down:

Scott: Insult-by-mail is still pretty funny. It's just too bad that I didn't ever get any requests.
Josh: Internet folk are too polite.
Scott: Who would have ever thought it?
Josh: Or your article taught people the meaning of friendship, made them realize how much others meant to them, and spread love and peace over the worldwideweb. If article-writing was a game, you'd receive a bonus. But it's not, so all you get is a feeling of shame brought upon by appalled misreaders.
Scott: Wow, I don't know whether to think of this as an accomplishment or a horrible failure. Can it be both?
Josh: Suxess.
Scott: Cool, it looks like I win
Josh: Mostly!
Scott: Wow, so suxess is more than 50% success?
Josh: No, but I can say that because 50% rounds up to 100%.
Scott: Wow, that was an amazing use of logic. Well done!
Josh: Maybe it can be a short update for a lazy day like today or something.
Scott: I'm not stopping you.

In the tradition of my King Kong review I have reviewed the most recent video game to movie adaptation in the form of Silent Hill. The joke in this review might not make much sense if you haven't seen the movie, so I'm going to completely cop out and give enough background here so that the joke makes sense:
Silent Hill takes place in a town that was abandoned years ago when a horrible fire broke out, killing loads of people. Interestingly, the town is still burning to this day. Remember that. The town is still on fire. So, you know, there is ash and burned stuff all over the place.
Now, keep this fact in mind when you read the review for the movie. And remember that this is an ACTUAL QUOTE that occurred 90 minutes into the film. Okay, got all that? Good, you should now be able to appreciate how this review prefectly captures the entire movie as succintly as possible. So, enjoy!

New month, clean and fresh home page, you know the routine. However, unlike previous months, I'm going to make some promises about the future of some smart, some don't. From this point forward this site will be updated every single day, for the rest of existence. Never mind that fact that this update is being made on April 2nd, under the guise of April 1st. And never mind that this makes it an April Fool's Day post.
No, don't mind any of those pesky facts. Instead, just think about how awesome it will be to get constant updates from your friends here at some smart, some don't.

Sorry there weren't a lot of updates through February, but it's just such a short month. That, and I spent much of the time watching the Olympic Games. Speaking of the Olympics, I would like to take a moment to congratulate the U.S. Men's Curling team for winning a bronze medal, and becoming the first U.S. curling medalists ever. A little known fact about the U.S. Men's Curling team: Famous actor Edward Norton was the captain of the team, however he went under the pseudonym Pete Fenson:

Way to go U.S. Men's Curling team! If it weren't 85 degrees outside, I'd be curling too.

"Words cannot describe how we all feel about this," said church member Pam Killingsworth.
"The kids are just precious, and she was precious," Killingsworth told The AP. "He was the one of the best ministers we've ever had -- just super charisma."

Speaking of things that annoy me I realized a few days ago that those of us who speak the English language have, for some odd reason, decided to pronounce the word hypocrite in a completely illogical manner. Realizing this made me think that there are probably reams of words that we don't pronounce according to the traditional rules of English.
So, as we (meaning you should send me examples) discover more of these we'll be sure to share them with you (meaning those of you who didn't send me examples).
Sorry if this update wasn't exactly funny - I'm watching curling on the Olympics at the moment and it appears to be sucking all the joy, excitement, alacrity, wonder, vitality, complexity, vigor, awe, insight, dexterity, sprit, and life in general from my brain.

In new month tradition, say good-bye to the old, painfully boring homepage that you've all grown excessively tired of and say hello to the new, strikingly fresh homepage. Go ahead, say "hello", I can wait. I'll just busy myself by enjoying this pointless frog picture.
Done?
Now?
Good.
You may be wondering what's in store here at some smart, some don't? Well, the good news is that Josh has recently had the greatest idea of all time, that will drastically alter the way the world looks at webcomics. It will be a huge, but extremely fun project, and once it reaches a certain point we'll debut it with bells, whistles, dancing women, and probably some other empty fanfare.
As for more imminent updates, they will be coming soon. Plenty of things have gotten on my nerves lately, so as soon as there's a spare moment it will be up here for you all to revel in.
For now, farewell millions of internet users.

January 20th, 2006 - Hereby the GREATEST DAY EVER!
There are many reasons today was aweome:
- I got off work early
- I played laser tag and got to shoot a lot of 12-year-olds in an attempt to recapture my lost youth
- I accidentally celebrated a friend's birthday.
Of all these things, however, none compared to the awesomeness that was forced upon my in my mail when I received a special package. As with any time you receive a surprise package, I was excited - but nothing would have prepared me for what I read on the addressee line of said package:

No you are not crazy. Yes, you are reading that correctly.

I finally decided to step up and contribute something more than a page dedicated to myself.
Last weekend, I went to see Woody Allen's latest movie, Match Point, and re-fell in love.
Two updates in one day?
No, hell hasn't frozen over yet.
Instead, we've added a(n) RSS feed
to the site, so check it out if you are into that sort of thing. And if you don't know what an RSS feed is, well, um, check out wikipedia.
It's not perfect yet, but it should at least let you know when new pages have been added, or if changes have been made to existing ones. Most importantly, it will mean you will never miss out on an update ever again! I know, life just got better for all of us. To someone sensitive to the force, this moment feels like the exact opposite of when the Death Star destroyed Alderaan.

Several very important updates to talk about today. First of all, it should be pretty obvious that we went ahead and re-vamped the entire site. Don't worry, it was a lot easier than it looks. If, for some crazy reason, you don't like the new look, send all your complaints to info [at] somesmart [dot] com.
Second, and more interestingly, Steve has put together his review of The Best Albums of 2005 with a critical look at the music of the year that most of us have forgotten.
Finally, though he hasn't added any real updates to the site, we do have a new contributor to the site, and you can read all about him here.

December 20, 2005
We understand that the holiday season can be stressful. Spending excessive amounts of time with your family, facing horrible mall crowds, and discovering that all of history is a lie (see below) can become quite overwhelming.

In order to cope, Josh has developed a simple Rorshach test that will allow us to quickly analyze and diagnose your specific psychosis. So, check it out and send us your results. Sanity, here we come!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: HISTORY LIES - GIANT APE RAVAGES NEW YORK CITY CIRCA 1930!
This update is by far the most important thing ever posted on some smart, some don't. Over the weekend I viewed a secret documentary that, evidently, no one else is watching. It was called King Kong and it showed how a giant ape destroyed New York City during the depression. As if this wasn't shocking enough, my entire world was turned upside down when I got home. After searching through all the history books I own, I learned that there was ABSOLUTELY NO mention of this atrocity anywhere!
How could this be? How could every history book completely gloss over such horrible destruction? That is why, today, I come forth with this shocking news. If you don't believe me then, please, do yourself a favor and get educated by watching the awesome documentary about these horrible events. Hopefully it's not too late...

A new month means another fresh start on the Home Page. As always, check below for the past front page updates. Today comes brings a few interesting additions. First of all, in spite of having yet to finish the game, I went ahead and wrapped up the Dragon Quest VIII review based on the ~50 hours I've played the game. I'll give you a hint: it rocks. I'm currently debating whether or not I should add information about the game in addition to a review, such as item lists and the alchemy pot list. If this is something anyone would be interested in, please send me an email and I'll consider any suggestions.
Furthermore, on a completely unrelated note, we've begun a list of tips for making the most of this Christmas. Have a look, unless of course you want your Christmas to suck....
Mini-update: Steve has submitted his first review, thanks to getting a sneak peak of the soon to be released Chronicles of Narnia film.
December 2, 2005
Sorry for the lack of updates lately. It's been a combination of spending far too much of my free time playing Dragon Quest 8, and literally having too many ideas to sit down and work on one of them specifically. That and my cat chewed through the power cord on the laptop, so I couldn't use it for a few days. (I prefer to update when I'm on the computer).
Soon, however, there will be some great updates worth waiting for, I promise!

One addition today, Josh wrote about Art and Idolatry. Read it, and be learned; avoid it, and your own ignorance will skin you alive.
November 18, 2005
Two recent additions to the website, one worth reading right now and the other work checking out every few days. The first: I went with no sleep last night just so I could bring you this most amazing review of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (the movie, not the book!) Read it, or all my lack of sleeping will have been for nothing.
As for the other - I'm playing through Dragon Quest VIII, but since it's appearently the longest game ever, I wanted to start reviewing it before it's old hat to everyone. Which, considering how much most of you care about video games, it probably already is...
Oh well, read it now and keep and eye on it over the next few weeks.

Just as a general word of advice - since the site is hosted on my personal computer, there will be times when it will temporarily go down. This is usually just because the hosting PC needs to be rebooted. For some reason, however, it only seems to happen when I'm at work, at about 9 am, meaning I can't fix it until I get home 8 hours later. So, if you see it broken on a weekday before 5pm, just be patient, it will be back soon enough.
On to more important things: I recently had one of the greatest geek experiences in my life. Twice. So check it out. And because this page needs some color, here's a picture of my favorite character from Final Fantasy IV:

I've cheated, and used the first day of the month as an excuse to start up a new front page. Or, at least what you might call a "fresh" front page. Technically, nothing has really been added to the site, but I have moved things around, and that's exciting. Typically, I'll probably move each month onto its own archived page, but if updates are more/less frequent, I'll adapt accordingly.
For now, you're just going to have to be happy about what is already here. If you're really bored, though, check out the works in project page as Josh has added quite a few things in the past few days.

Sorry if you tried accessing the site earlier today or yesterday and weren't able to. I had a slight problem with the internal network. Basically, the router was pointing all incoming http requests to the laptop instead of the desktop. The problem being, it's the desktop that serves this site, and not the laptop so, obviously, no requests were being answered.
As for a real update, my brother wrote the following about the future of the astros World Series run: Astros Call-Up Seal.
October 19, 2005
If you, like me, were dissapointed with the loss by the Astros on Monday night, then it was probably you're fault. Don't believe me? Too bad. You jinxed them. Here's the proof.
Octover 11, 2005
Don't worry, the site isn't already dead in the water. In fact, a lot has been happening, but it's mostly been behind the scenes. Keep an eye on the "Recent Smartings" section of the sidebar - you should see most of the new updates go on there. Not all the updates on the site will be included here in the center, so that's what that sidebar is for.
Currently a lot of old stuff has been added just to fill out the site, but there are some new items, such as our awesome Search List. Go ahead, click on it. It's okay. I promise barely anything terrible will happen to you.

Sadly, Don Adams, the infamous Agent 86 - Maxwell Smart - passed away late Sunday night. Though this site won't typically post this type of news, the fact that he is the obvious progenitor of the whole "Get Smart" joke, I figured it would be appropriate to honor him. You will be missed Mr. Adams.
