The Dream
I don't know when it started, exactly, but there was a point in time where I suddenly realized using a high quality projector to play video games would be the greatest experience ever. Last night I found out how very right I was when Vanessa came home with a $2000 Mitsubishi projector that she would be using the next day for something she always refers to as "work". I'm not familiar with it, though, so I ignored the specifics. Instead, I hooked up Mitsy to my Game Cube, and booted up The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.

I told you Link was huge.
The Deed
It was beautiful. Literally. Seeing the game played on a 4’ by 6’ projection without losing anything in terms of resolution was amazing. The character movements, the coherency of the world, the color saturation; everything looked perfect. In fact, with the camera zoomed in, Link was practically life size. I was shocked. I assumed at this size, the game would appear blocky and pixelated, but it wasn’t. I’m not sure if it was just the overwhelming graphical prowess of Wind Waker, or if any game would look as good (I should get a chance to try some other games tonight), but in terms of my gaming life, it was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in the past. Remember the first time you ever played Super Mario Land on the SNES? Yeah, it was almost that cool.
The Dilemma
Unfortunately, using a machine as powerful as Mitsy to play your video games isn’t all roses and cinnamon rolls. Tonight, I must face the difficult task of choosing whether to play Wind Waker again (which I know will look freakishly good) or some other game that might look just as good if not better. It won’t be easy, but I think I’ll get through it in the end. I think I’m finally starting to understand what Vanessa means when she talks about how “hard work is”. Responsibility sucks.
